Moderately Active. May involve some moderate hikes in forests and nature reserves, getting in and out of vehicles and rocking boats, and walking in uneven pavement in archaeological sites, in some cases in extreme weather conditions, heat, high elevation and humidity.
Our program only operates during the winter months as the vessel is stationed in Alaska during the summer. During this time the weather is marvelous with temperatures in the high 70’s and cool evenings, perfect for the exploration of this unique part of the world.
Your journey begins as you board your flight to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. Upon arrival, you will be met and escorted to your hotel located on an inlet bay in the Sea of Cortés, offering exclusive access to the only swimming-allowed beach in Los Cabos. LOS CABOS HILTON HOTEL.
Enjoy your morning breakfast before transferring to San José del Cabo hospitality area. Joined by your expedition team, an overland orientation transfer to La Paz acquaints you with the dramatic Baja landscape and the week that lies ahead. The captain and crew welcome you aboard just in time for a cocktail and dinner with your new mates. The Safari Endeavour, your home for the next seven nights, is an 86-passenger ship that creates an intimate spirit with like-minded travelers and brings you to the remote and seldom-seen narrow waterways and isolated coves not visited by larger ships. In a playground of steep red bluffs and sweeping desert beach, kick off your weeklong adventure with a day of play. Don some flippers for a snorkel among colorful sea life, put on your walking shoes for an exploratory hike, grab a paddle, or relax on the beach with the sand between your toes. The rugged beauty of the island makes it an ideal spot for escapades. M/Y SAFARI ENDEAVOUR. (B,L,D)
Pass before La Roca Solitaria as you enter Bahía Agua Verde. The solitary monolith stands as a sentinel to a turquoise bay rimmed by high striated cliffs. Explore the clear waters by small skiff, visit with a local ranchero and his family, and take to the canyons and mountains on a burro ride to be treated to scenic vistas and excellent birding. Today weather conditions may determine your course. Cruise to Bahia de la Paz, memorialized in John Steinbeck’s 1947 novel The Pearl. Here you may have a chance to swim next to the largest fish in the ocean, the whale shark, which can grow to a length of 40 feet and weigh as much as 47,000 pounds! In the alternative, make way for Bahia Magdalena. Sheltered by sand dune islands, it is a destination for migrating gray whales who use these waters to calve. You stand an excellent chance of sighting one of these magnificent creatures, which can reach lengths of 50 feet. As you can see, either option places you in the presence of giants. This evening, dock in Puerto Escondidio. M/Y SAFARI ENDEAVOUR. (B,L,D)
Sailing through islands once pillaged by conquistadors for their black pearls, it’s Captain’s choice today. Nestle into a white sand beach at Isla San Francisco’s aptly named Half Moon Bay, or perhaps you’ll scramble the red cliffs of Isla San José and paddle in a mangrove sanctuary. Either way, it’s time to play. Snorkel along barnacled rocks, kayak amidst hues of blue, and take an interpretive walk to the salt chuck or a more strenuous guided hike along a desert rim for a spectacular panoramic view. M/Y SAFARI ENDEAVOUR. (B,L,D)
Navigate to Los Islotes, actually the craggy peak of a steep seamount, to observe a sea lion colony from the boat and skiff, or slip into a wetsuit for an early morning snorkel with curious, agile young sea lion pups, while orange fan and white fire coral sway in the current. Afterwards, heave anchor and set sail for Isla Partida for an afternoon of water play or island hikes along deserted beaches or into rocky arroyos. M/Y SAFARI ENDEAVOUR. (B,L,D)
Tuck into a secluded cove surrounded by long fingers of red rock and a golden beach. Spend your last full day enjoying the feel of warm sand under your feet on a beach walk, investigate nooks and crannies in the rocks by kayak, or explore a little further afield on a guided hike. After tonight’s special farewell dinner, your expedition team recaps the journey with an entertaining slideshow. M/Y SAFARI ENDEAVOUR. (B,L,D)
